Overview

What it does

Notion MCP is a remote server hosted by Notion at mcp.notion.com. You connect with OAuth, and the client can then use Notion’s tools on any content your account can reach. Pages are read and edited as Markdown, which keeps responses compact. Notion also publishes an open-source local server (makenotion/notion-mcp-server, run with npx @notionhq/notion-mcp-server and a NOTION_TOKEN), but its README says it is no longer actively maintained and points users to the hosted server.

It suits teams that keep specs, meeting notes and project databases in Notion and want an assistant to find decisions, draft pages or update database entries. On Business and Enterprise plans with Notion AI, notion-search also runs AI search across connected sources such as Slack, Google Drive and Jira; other plans get keyword search. A notion-get-tool-access tool reports which tools and filters the workspace plan allows. Workspace owners can review and revoke connections under Settings, Connections.

Tools

What the assistant can do

  • Search Notion and connected sources, or look up users
  • Fetch pages, databases and data sources
  • Create, update, move and duplicate pages
  • Create databases, folders and views, and query across data sources
  • Add and read comments
  • Query meeting notes
  • Move pages and databases to Trash after confirmation, and restore them

Install

Install Notion MCP server in your app

You need:

  • A Notion account
  • An MCP client with remote server and OAuth support
  • A Business or Enterprise plan with Notion AI for AI search and some filters

Run in your project. --scope local keeps the servers private to you in this project; use user for every project.

Terminal
claude mcp add --scope local --transport http notion https://mcp.notion.com/mcp
  • notion: sign in when the app asks (run /mcp in Claude Code).

Want it alongside other servers? Open Notion MCP in the MCP config generator and add the rest; it writes one file per app. The snippets follow the setup in the server’s README, checked on 2026-10-14.

Before you install

  • A connected client can read and change anything you can access in the workspace, including moving pages and databases to Trash.
  • Notion warns that page content can carry prompt injection. Treat tool output as untrusted and turn on confirmation before actions that change content.
  • A remote server sees whatever the assistant sends it. Sign in with the narrowest access the service offers. See how to choose a safe server.

Why it’s listed

Why we list it

The vendor-hosted server for a widely used docs and wiki tool, with Markdown-based editing and admin controls over connections.
