Overview
What it does
The Netlify MCP Server gives coding agents access to the Netlify API and CLI. Netlify recommends its hosted remote server at netlify-mcp.netlify.app, which always has the latest capabilities and signs you in through the browser. A local version is also published as the @netlify/mcp npm package (npx -y @netlify/mcp, Node.js 22 or newer) for teams that must run servers on their own machines.
With it an agent can create and deploy projects, change access controls, install or remove Netlify extensions, read user and team details, manage form submissions and set environment variables and secrets. It suits developers who already host on Netlify and want their editor’s agent to ship a site or fix a failing deploy without leaving the chat. If browser sign-in fails with the local package, the README documents a temporary NETLIFY_PERSONAL_ACCESS_TOKEN environment variable, which you should remove once the problem is fixed.
Tools
What the assistant can do

- Change project access controls
- Install or uninstall Netlify extensions
- Fetch user and team information
- Enable and manage form submissions
- Create and manage environment variables and secrets
Install
Install Netlify MCP server in your app
You need:
- A Netlify account
- Node.js 22 or newer if you use the local @netlify/mcp package
Run in your project. --scope local keeps the servers private to you in this project; use user for every project.
claude mcp add --scope local --transport http netlify https://netlify-mcp.netlify.app/mcp
- netlify: if the server needs a sign-in, the app will ask (run /mcp in Claude Code).
Project root. Commit it to share the servers with your team; each person sets the variables in their own shell.

- netlify is a remote server: add it as a custom connector (Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector; on Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors), with the URL https://netlify-mcp.netlify.app/mcp.
In your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project.

Want it alongside other servers? Open Netlify MCP Server in the MCP config generator and add the rest; it writes one file per app. The snippets follow the setup in the server’s README, checked on 2026-10-14.
Before you install
- The server can deploy sites and change environment variables and secrets on every project your Netlify account can reach.
- Never commit a Netlify personal access token to your repository; the README says to use one only temporarily.
- A remote server sees whatever the assistant sends it. Sign in with the narrowest access the service offers. See how to choose a safe server.
Why it’s listed
Why we list it
Netlify’s own server, actively released, and the most direct way for an agent to deploy and manage Netlify sites.
