Overview
What it does
The Microsoft Learn MCP Server is a remote endpoint run by Microsoft. It searches Microsoft’s official technical documentation, fetches a docs page as Markdown and finds official code samples, with an optional language filter. There is nothing to install and no key: you point your client at the endpoint over Streamable HTTP. The GitHub repository holds the setup guides, agent skills and a learn-cli tool rather than the server code.
Pick it when you work with Azure, .NET, Microsoft 365, Power Platform or other Microsoft products and want answers checked against current first-party docs. An experimental maxTokenBudget query parameter trims search results to save tokens, and a separate OpenAI-compatible endpoint exists for deep research models. Visual Studio 2022 and 2026 include it already, and the README lists one-step setup for many other clients.

Before you install
- Your search queries are sent to Microsoft’s hosted service.
- It only reads public Microsoft documentation; it cannot touch your files, tenant or Azure resources.
- A remote server sees whatever the assistant sends it. Sign in with the narrowest access the service offers. See how to choose a safe server.
