Overview
What it does
Prisma runs a hosted MCP server at mcp.prisma.io. You add the URL to your client, sign in with your Prisma account, pick a workspace and approve access. The assistant then works with the Prisma Postgres databases, Prisma Compute deployments and Object Storage buckets in that workspace. There is nothing to install and no key to store.
It is a good fit if your app already runs on Prisma Postgres. The assistant can create a database, read its schema, run SQL, list automated backups and restore one to a new database. For apps on Prisma Compute it can list builds, read runtime logs, promote or roll back a deployment and set environment variables. A documentation tool answers Prisma questions with links back to the docs. The Compute tools manage existing deployments only; they do not build or upload source code.
Tools
What the assistant can do
- List, create and delete Prisma Postgres databases
- Connection strings, backups and restore to a new database
- Schema introspection, SQL queries and schema updates
- Object Storage buckets and access keys
- Prisma Compute builds, deployments, logs and environment variables
- Prisma documentation search with cited answers
Install
Install Prisma MCP server in your app
You need:
- A Prisma account with access to a workspace
- An MCP client that supports remote servers and OAuth
Run in your project. --scope local keeps the servers private to you in this project; use user for every project.
claude mcp add --scope local --transport http prisma https://mcp.prisma.io/mcp
- prisma: if the server needs a sign-in, the app will ask (run /mcp in Claude Code).
Project root. Commit it to share the servers with your team; each person sets the variables in their own shell.

- prisma is a remote server: add it as a custom connector (Customize → Connectors → + Add → Add custom connector; on Team and Enterprise plans an owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors), with the URL https://mcp.prisma.io/mcp.
In your project, or ~/.cursor/mcp.json for every project.

Want it alongside other servers? Open Prisma MCP server in the MCP config generator and add the rest; it writes one file per app. The snippets follow the setup in the server’s README, checked on 2026-10-14.
Before you install
- Tools can delete databases, buckets, deployments and apps and change live traffic; Prisma warns this can cause data loss, so check the target workspace before approving.
- execute_sql_query can modify or delete data, and there is no documented read-only mode, so review each SQL call.
- Access covers the whole workspace you approve at sign-in.
- A remote server sees whatever the assistant sends it. Sign in with the narrowest access the service offers. See how to choose a safe server.
Why it’s listed
Why we list it
The vendor’s own hosted server for Prisma Postgres and Compute, with no local setup.
