Overview
What it does
Postman’s MCP server links AI agents to your Postman workspaces, collections, specifications and environments. The remote server at mcp.postman.com supports OAuth and needs no API key. A local npm package, @postman/postman-mcp-server, runs over stdio with a POSTMAN_API_KEY. An EU remote server is also available, but it and the local package accept only API key authentication.
The server comes in four configurations. Minimal, the default, has the essential tools for changing one collection, workspace or environment. Code adds tools that generate client code from public and internal API definitions. Full exposes more than 100 Postman API tools, and Learn searches the Postman docs. You choose by changing the URL path (/minimal, /code or /mcp) or by passing --code or --full to the local package. Use the local server when you need to test APIs on your own machine, because the remote server has no network access to it.
Tools
What the assistant can do

- Create workspaces and environments and manage environment variables
- Create API specs from code and generate collections from them
- Generate client code from API definitions (Code mode)
- Search Postman documentation (Learn mode)
- Use more than 100 Postman API tools (Full mode)
Install
Install Postman MCP server in your app
You need:
- A Postman account
- An MCP client with remote server and OAuth support, or Node.js for the local package
- A Postman API key for the EU server or the local package
Run in your project. --scope local keeps the servers private to you in this project; use user for every project.

Want it alongside other servers? Open Postman MCP Server in the MCP config generator and add the rest; it writes one file per app. The snippets follow the setup in the server’s README, checked on 2026-10-14.
Before you install
- Full mode exposes tools that change workspaces, collections and environments. Start with Minimal and move up only if you need more.
- Environment tools can read and change environment variables, which often hold API secrets.
- An API key has your account’s access. Keep it in the POSTMAN_API_KEY environment variable or an Authorization header value from a secret store.
- A remote server sees whatever the assistant sends it. Sign in with the narrowest access the service offers. See how to choose a safe server.
Why it’s listed
Why we list it
The vendor’s server for the most common API workspace tool, with a small default tool set and both hosted and local options.
